With Joe and Ian as your guides and instructors, this five-day workshop will bring this magnificent national park to life before your lens.
We’ll also teach you professional “digital darkroom” secrets and explore a number of artistic philosophies that will help you find your own personal vision.
Curriculum
Joe and Ian will teach and demonstrate a variety of techniques that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset; the fundamentals of powerful compositions; and abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs. In addition, we’ll explore a number of artistic philosophies that will help you find your own personal vision.

Workflow topics to be covered include: File formats for shooting and for archiving, Exposing for digital, Downloading for automatic image organization, Proper file naming, Cataloging of images: Lightroom or other software, Using the tools in Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom’s Develop Module, Color spaces for the best results in different media, Creating panoramic images, Color adjustment strategies, Using Photoshop to finalize the image: dodging and burning, adjustment layers and layer masking, controlling luminosity and contrast, sharpening for output
In the field, Joe & Ian will focus on expanding creative vision, creating compositions that go beyond the "rule of thirds" and how to make images that convey a sense of wonder and drama. We will also discuss getting techniques and philosophies on creating professional images no matter the weather or light. Joe & Ian will be shooting side-by-side with the group offering up creative ideas, preforming demonstrations on camera position, use of natural light and advanced compositional and creative choices to maximize great photos. As always, Joe & Ian will be available to work one-on-one to help you realize your vision of the scene with in the field critiques, discussion of lenses and camera settings, position and composition.
